Turkish Airlines Adds More Lagos–Istanbul Flights: What Nigerian Travellers Need to Know

Turkish Airlines is expanding its flight services between Lagos, Nigeria, and Istanbul, Türkiye, from seven to 10 flights per week beginning December 11, 2026. The expansion is expected to give Nigerian travellers more flexibility when planning international trips, particularly during the busy end-of-year travel season.

Nigerian travellers planning international journeys will soon have more flight options as Turkish Airlines prepares to increase the frequency of its services between Lagos and Istanbul.

The airline announced plans to introduce three additional weekly flights on the route from December 11, 2026, increasing its scheduled services from seven to 10 flights per week. The move is intended to accommodate growing demand for travel between Nigeria and Türkiye, as well as passengers connecting to other international destinations through Istanbul.

The development could be particularly relevant for Nigerians planning Christmas holidays, family visits, business trips and international connections during the festive season.

According to reports published in October, the additional flights will strengthen the airline’s Nigerian operations and expand access to its international network.

Turkish Airlines Expands Its Lagos Flight Schedule

The planned increase will add three weekly services to the airline’s existing Lagos–Istanbul schedule.

Under the announced timetable, Turkish Airlines’ existing daily service will continue, while the additional flights are scheduled to operate on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The published schedule lists the following details for the additional services:

All times are local to the departure and arrival airports. The schedule may change, so passengers should confirm their specific flight directly with Turkish Airlines before travelling.

The extra services may make it easier to find suitable departure dates and connections, but they do not guarantee available seats or lower fares.

What the Expansion Means for Nigerian Travellers

  • More departure options

Three additional weekly flights could help travellers coordinate holidays, business meetings, educational commitments and onward connections.

Passengers can compare more dates and choose itineraries.

  • Better Connecting Opportunities Through Istanbul

Istanbul is a major international hub, and passengers can connect there to destinations across the airline’s network. The usefulness of a connection depends on onward schedules, connection time, airport procedures and applicable entry or transit requirements.

Travellers should confirm that their itinerary allows sufficient time between flights.

  • Additional Options for End-of-Year Travel

December is an important travel period for many Nigerians, with people travelling for holidays, family reunions, religious activities, business and tourism.

The additional flights are scheduled to begin on December 11, shortly before the Christmas and New Year travel period. The expanded schedule could provide more options for travellers planning international trips during this busy season.

Nevertheless, demand may remain high, and passengers should compare fares and availability rather than assume that extra flights will make travel cheaper.
